No Breed Bans

Breed restrictions generally cannot be enforced against an ESA.

No Pet Rent

Monthly pet rent does not apply to ESA's in most cases.

No Weight Limits

Size and weight limits usually do not apply under FHA protection.

Know The Law

What the Fair Housing Act Covers

The Fair Housing Act (FHA) requires landlords to provide reasonable accommodation for individuals with a qualifying emotional support animal. Under federal law, an ESA is not considered a pet.

Because of this distinction, housing providers typically cannot apply pet policies, charge pet deposits or rent, or enforce breed and weight restrictions on a qualified ESA.

Quickly got it. Was worried at first but it was approved within about 7 hours. And also accepted by my landlord. I even checked the Dr's credentials myself and they were valid!

The building had a 40-pound weight limit. With the letter, the property manager said she legally couldn't enforce it on my dog.

This was an easy process and it gives me peace of mind. I like the other benefits that are offered too, like vet access for questions. Truly one of the best things I have ever done.

I was scared it was a scam but it was such a reasonable price. Now that everything is falling along, I will be passing the info along to my friends.

Breed, size, and weight restrictions typically do not apply to emotional support animals under the Fair Housing Act.
A service animal is individually trained to perform specific tasks for a person with a disability. An emotional support animal provides comfort and support through companionship and does not require specialized training. A valid ESA letter from a licensed health professional is the standard documentation used when requesting housing accommodations under the Fair Housing Act. Requirements may vary by state.
